The Midnight Ball
Full-volume duchess satin and tulle ball gown
The Midnight Ball is not a subtle garment. It is a full-length, full-volume ball gown in the tradition of haute couture — structured, voluminous, and entirely uncompromising in its commitment to spectacle.
The bodice is corseted and fitted; the skirt is constructed from hundreds of metres of duchess satin and tulle, built up in layers to achieve a silhouette that remains perfectly circular from every angle. It is the most labour-intensive piece in the collection.
- Duchess satin (black)
- Multi-layer tulle petticoat (5 layers)
- Internal boning structure (12-bone)
- Silk organza inner skirt
- Hand-finished hem with horsehair braid
The Skirt Architecture
The ball gown skirt is a structure before it is a garment. Five concentric tulle layers, each wider than the last, are gathered individually before assembly. The duchess satin outer layer is the final element, sitting over the volume framework.
The Boning
Twelve bones are set into the corseted bodice — four in the front panel, four in back, two on each side. The front bones are shaped to follow the sternum; the side bones follow the natural curve of the ribcage.
The Hem
A horsehair braid is hand-stitched into the hem of the satin skirt. This couture technique gives the hem body and a gentle spring — it is what makes the skirt hold its circular shape without rigidity.
- Professional dry clean only
- Store hanging on a padded hanger
- Store open, not in a bag, to allow the structure to breathe
